By Appointment only

With Mark Alexander Interior Design consultations arranged only by appointment, our Brisbane office in the Santos Place building on Turbot Street is ideally located for visiting interstate and international clients. We want our designs to reflect the personality and style of each customer, so we encourage some personal involvement and collaboration throughout the design process, beginning with a consultation in your home or workplace too. This gives us greater insight into your lifestyle or workplace culture, and how it influences your home or office.

With all our furniture being custom-made to reflect the style of the client and space it will be used in, we don’t have a showroom that displays our designs, but following your initial consultation with Mark Alexander, we can arrange private viewings of past work. This allows you to see our designs more practically.

But with Mark Alexander overseeing every stage of production, you can always expect high-quality results and absolute satisfaction, further supported by the personal involvement we encourage. Every design has endless possibilities thanks to a near limitless combination of luxury fabrics, materials, colours, and finishes available to you, with our experience and expert knowledge always available to prevent you from being overwhelmed by the choices.

Interior Design Process and Services Available

    Introductory Consultation

Any project we are involved with depends on us having a sound understanding of you, your lifestyle, and your preferences. Which is why it always begins with an introductory in-home or office consultation, even if you’ve already had an initial interior design consultation in our office. A personal discussion with you is an opportunity for us to expand on your vision, discover ideas you have, and assess your expectations, followed by us surveying the space, so that we can also discuss a tentative timeframe and budget for the project. You will later be presented with a more detailed proposal that breaks down each stage of the project and allows for a properly structured budget that you will need to review and approve.

    Planning and Artistry

Prior to this stage of the design process, there is an intangible quality to any ideas proposed, but once you accept our detailed proposal, the creative and artistic brilliance of Mark Alexander begins to express more tangible ideas in the form of hand-drawn concepts, presented alongside examples of finishes and fabrics for each concept. Collaboration and feedback from you is very important from this stage, allowing us to refine concepts and the project plans and schedules to ensure your complete satisfaction with the outcomes and the work done on each component. During the first two stages of any design project you can expect the following:

    • Hands-on consultation with you throughout the design planning, including in relation to architect plans representing new builds and renovations.
    • Professional advice and consultation for all proposed interior selections and finishes.
    • Concept sketches that are later translated into floorplans and layouts to scale, 2D elevation drawings when necessary, and 3D renderings of interiors.
    • Project plans and schedules detailing each stage of the process.

    Production Phase

During this phase, Mark Alexander’s lovely hand-drawn concepts are transformed into the actual pieces that will be used in your space, with personally selected local and international artisans involved in the manufacturing process. Even though they are each masters of their trade, Mark Alexander still oversees every stage of manufacturing to ensure all specifications are adhered to precisely and carrying out regular quality control checks. You will receive regular updates and progress photos throughout this phase, ensuring you remain involved in all stages of the project and are able to collaborate on any changes required. The production phase could involve some or most of the following:

    • Bespoke furniture pieces that are handcrafted by highly skilled artisans, using fine timbers such as walnut, European beech, and more, along with exotic veneers such as Macassar ebony and flame mahogany.
    • Great finishes that could include gilding, French polish, and other polished finishes in any colour or style.
    • Your selection of great fabrics from renowned Australian and international fabric houses, and metal details ranging from brass, copper, gold, and bronze, through to chrome and stainless steel.

    Delivery and Fit Out

The final stages of each project begin with the inspection of finished products, delivery, and then placement, fitting, and styling of all the elements that make up the final design. And because everything we make retains a high-quality and reflects your personality, you and your family will be able to enjoy each new piece for generations to come. Steps taken ahead of and during the final stage include:

    • The addition of panelling, padded walls, professional paint finishes, or the hanging of wallpaper.
    • The finalisation of window treatments, which could be limited to luxury curtains and drapery, or include the introduction of tiebacks and decorative pelmets.
    • Custom lighting solutions from ceiling lights down to lamps, with additional accents such as custom fireplaces, mirrors, rugs, and timber, stone, or carpeted flooring.
    • Professional advice and consultation relating to the sourcing of additional accessories and finishes.

With the support of a team of highly skilled professionals with more than 30 years of experience, Mark Alexander Interior Design has worked on countless home and office interiors, and the design and manufacture of one-of-a-kind furniture pieces for clients throughout Australia and overseas. Sophisticated spaces that appeal to all the senses but still accurately represent the client’s personality and style are what motivates us, and we have never encountered a project we have deemed to be too big or too small, or too troublesome or straightforward.
